Lester was a railroad town at the west end of the Stampede Tunnel through the Cascades. When the tunnel was improved and no longer needed crews, Lester declined. One person reportedly still lives there.

The Northern Pacific built Lester to support operations at the Stampede Tunnel. The town had a hotel and services for railroad workers.
Modern Era
Though nearly abandoned, the town gets occasional visitors. Access is by rough forest roads.
