Glastonbury

The Bennington Triangle Mystery

State: Vermont County: Bennington County Founded: 1761 Abandoned: 1937 (disincorporated) Peak Population: 241 (1880)

Glastonbury is a rugged, mountainous ghost town famous for being the center of the 'Bennington Triangle,' an area known for unexplained disappearances and folklore.

History

Chartered in 1761, Glastonbury was always isolated due to its high elevation and short growing season. It briefly boomed as a logging and charcoal venture in the late 19th century, served by a steep funicular railway. By the 1930s, the population had dwindled to nearly nothing, and the town was disincorporated by the state in 1937.
