Sego was a coal mining town in a canyon famous for ancient rock art. After the coal ran out, Sego was abandoned. The petroglyphs and pictographs remain - some over 8,000 years old - alongside the ghost town ruins.

Coal Mining

The American Fuel Company built Sego to mine coal. A railroad connected the town to markets.

The canyon walls have rock art left by Archaic, Fremont, and Ute peoples spanning thousands of years.
