Doodletown (from Dutch 'Dood Dale' or Dead Valley) was an isolated hamlet. It played a role in the Revolutionary War. In the 1960s, the Palisades Interstate Park Commission bought out the residents to create ski slopes (which were never built). Today, it is a popular hiking destination with foundations and cemeteries.
