Glenrio straddled the Texas-New Mexico border on Route 66—with cafes and gas stations on both sides. When I-40 bypassed the town in 1975, Glenrio died instantly. The 'Last Motel in Texas/First Motel in Texas' signs still stand as Route 66 relics.
