Feltville was built by David Felt as a utopian mill village. He controlled every aspect of workers' lives, earning the nickname 'King David.' When the mill closed, the village became a summer resort, then declined. Today it's preserved as 'The Deserted Village' in Watchung Reservation.
King David's Village
David Felt built houses, a church, and stores for his workers. He required church attendance and banned alcohol.
Resort Era
After the mill closed, Feltville became a resort called Glenside Park. It declined after tuberculosis fears.
