Kilns in the Valley
State: Nevada
County: Nye County
Founded: 1866
Abandoned: 1907
Peak Population: 1,000
Tybo was a remote silver town with charcoal kilns that still stand. The town produced millions in silver but couldn't overcome its isolation. Stone kilns used to smelt ore are the most impressive remains.
Silver Riches
Tybo produced $4 million in silver from 1874 to 1882. The remote location made supplies expensive and workers scarce.
Charcoal Heritage
The beehive charcoal kilns converted local pinyon-juniper into fuel for smelting. Three kilns remain standing.
