Torras

The Levee Shift

State: Louisiana County: Pointe Coupee Parish Founded: 1900s Abandoned: 1927 (flood/levee move) Peak Population: Unknown

Torras was a railroad hub at the convergence of the Mississippi, Red, and Atchafalaya rivers. Frequent flooding, especially the Great Flood of 1927, forced the levees to be moved back, leaving Torras on the 'river side' of the wall. The town was dismantled and abandoned.
