Former parish seat moved due to flooding

State: Louisiana County: Madison Parish Founded: 1831 Abandoned: 1930s

Richmond was the original seat of Madison Parish—but the Mississippi River kept flooding it. Eventually the parish seat moved to drier ground at Tallulah. Richmond declined and was largely abandoned. The river that created it also destroyed it.
