Gilmore was the terminus of the Gilmore & Pittsburgh Railroad, built to haul ore from rich silver-lead mines. At its peak, 1,500 people lived here. When the mines closed, the railroad followed, and Gilmore emptied.

Railroad Town

The Gilmore & Pittsburgh Railroad connected the mines to the main line. The town was the railroad's reason for existence.

Substantial Ruins

Unlike many ghost towns, Gilmore has several standing buildings including the old hotel and general store.
