Scull Shoals was home to Georgia's first paper mill (1811) and a four-story textile mill employing 600 people. Native Americans occupied the site for 10,000 years. An 1887 flood destroyed the mills and ended the town. Ruins include mill foundations, chimneys, and an arched bridge in the forest.
