Bara
State: Connecticut
County: Litchfield County
Founded: 1730s
Abandoned: 1800s
Connecticut's iron industry created small furnace villages throughout the northwest hills. When the iron played out or larger furnaces made them obsolete, these communities disappeared. Bara is one example—foundations and slag piles remain in the woods.
