Total Wreck got its name from a prospector's reaction to finding the wrecked remains of his claim. The silver mine produced well for a few years, then lived up to its name. Stone ruins remain in the Empire Mountains.

Origin of the Name

John Dillon supposedly exclaimed 'What a total wreck!' upon seeing his claim. The name stuck.

Brief Life

Total Wreck boomed from 1879 to 1883, producing $500,000 in silver. When the ore ran out, so did the town.
